Get ready to LAUGH!!
This is not my typical episode but a behind the scenes look at the beginning of my podcast.  Today, I was going to launch part two of my episode with Stef since I’m graduating from her 90-day intensive coaching program TODAY, November 10th 2022,but I've decided to give you this bonus of an episode too!
When I started listening to the beginning of this recording to edit it, I thought this is what my listeners need to hear.   So many times in my life I have heard “Keatha you make everything look so easy”. Today I've got a room full of amazing women that are sure to inspire you.  I love being in community with them and I know you are going to love getting to know them. 
What do we all have in common? We are co-authors in a new book called UNLEASH HER!    You might hear a lot of buzz around this book and these women, and I’m humbled and honored to be in their circle.
My chapter is called Dig Deep.  It is about defining moments that I feel led me to start binge eating, overeating, secret eating, people pleasing and overall just using food to numb by emotions.   I could have written hundreds of them, but I felt led to choose a few.  It’s been interesting how I’ve already seen confirmation that I picked the right few.   I hope that when you read our book, you’ll be changed.  Either be set free, knowing you’re not alone or gain strength to make the changes you need to make.  Most importantly you’ll find the help or support that you need.  
Each one of these women share from their heart in their chapters and in this interview. When we first get started… You can hear our nervousness and unsteadiness.  But just like every episode, it’s real and just normal women learning, growing and helping others.   However, as these ladies start opening up, you literally hear the nervousness fall off and their passion just shines. Normally, my episodes are just 20 minutes, this one is is almost 60.  There was just no place to split it. So you may need to pause and come back to it, but don't miss a minute.   I know you will be as blessed by them as I have been!

Today on War on Weight, I have Michelle McCoy from the Treasured Wellness podcast. Michelle is a certified Holistic Health coach and specific passions are: Adrenal Fatigue, Auto-Immune Disorders and Spiritual Health.   I’m super excited to have this conversation with her and talk about the foundations of a healthy life and the goal of optimal health for women over 40.
When I listened to her podcast, I was like YES, YES, YES!   She spoke my language and reiterated so many of the basic health principles that are the foundations of the program that helped me lose 56 pounds*, OPTAVIA.  There are many ways to get to optimal health and I love having conversations and learning different ways to get there. 
 
Michelle shares some key ways women over 40 can get to optimal health by putting just a few  healthy habits into place.    I love the wisdom she brings to the show today and how it connects the habits of health I put into practice in my life to finally win the war on my weight.
 
In the book Habits of Health, Dr. A states “a key study was published in the Arch of Internal Medicine. They evaluated over 25,000 people and concluded that by adhering to four simple lifestyle factors, you can reduce your risk of developing major chronic disease by 80%!
Those lifestyle factors are: • No smoking • Have a BMI less than 30 • Perform three and a half hours a week or more of physical activity • Adhere to dietary principles such as a high intake of fruit, vegetables, whole grain bread, and lower your meat consumption Optimal and Ultrahealth™ Guidelines.
Here are the key parameters we’re aiming for:
Systolic blood pressure 110–95 or less Diastolic blood pressure 75–60 or less
Body mass index 24.9–19.5 (around 20 is ideal; no less than 18.5) Body fat 10% for men; 17–23% for women
HDL (good cholesterol) 50–70 mg/dl
Fasting blood sugar 75 mg/dl

On today’s episode I’m being interviewed by one of my co-authors of our upcoming book UNLEASH HER!  EEKK!  YIKES!!  Have you ever been excited and scared all at the same time?  That’s where I am right now. 
In my chapter, I talk about digging deep and finding some defining moments.   Through the process I was able to identify many defining moments in my life that lead to my weight gain, binge eating and numbing my emotions. When you hear me say I had to face some issues that caused me to run to food over and over again, this is the kind of things I'm talking about.  Sister, we all have them!
I’ve not gotten to the point yet where I define myself as an author, but maybe a glorified journaler.   Journaling works and I encourage you to find some journal prompts, take a free Heartwork journaling course or just  do a good old fashion brain dump.  That’s right, just write everything that comes to mind and get it out of your head so you can think a little more clearly and your brain can have a rest.
So a  little correction, Mary Kay Ash was 45 not 52 when she started her business but still.   I recently was at the Joyce Meyer conference and she mentioned she was 50 years old the first time she was on TV and now she’s 79!  Sisters we have a full life to live over 50.  Always remember it’s never too late!

It’s OKAY to want to lose weight! You cannot be healthy and be 50 pounds overweight.
Hold onto your hat sister, this one just might make you stop and think. WHOA…. Fitness Teacher Gospel Teacher??? Really? Well, PREACH SISTER!   I may preach a little in this episode, but I also challenge the skinny diet mentality in a reverse way.  I hate that people make us feel like something is wrong with us because we want to be skinny. So I give you permission to chase skinny if that's what it takes to get you healthy.
Bottom line, You cannot be healthy and be 50 pounds overweight. So just because in our minds we think and our words we say we want to be skinny, there’s nothing wrong with you. Health is what we want, feeling good is what we want, not beating ourselves up day after day is what we want.  And if honoring our bodies by taking care of it is what it takes… So be it!  Weight loss will lead to healthy and your version of skinny might just be the byproduct.   
This may not be your favorite episode and I hope I don’t lose you here, but I hope that it makes you stop and think about the you in 10 years from now.   Being overweight, will lead to health issues. You can’t live a long vibrant life loving and serving God and others if we are unhealthy in our body, minds and immobile.    If we want to live in perfect health, we must drop the weight.   I'm here to walk alongside you and give you all the resources you need to lose your weight.

Paper often represents things about us that weigh us down or make us thing poorly of ourselves. It can lead to added stress.  For many, added stress leads to stress and/or emotional eating.  Emotional eating leads to beating ourselves up, that leads to more stress, more avoidance of things we don't want to do and guess what?.... More overeating, less motivation to do more or better, more stress!  This cycle can continue until we are 10, 20, 40, or even 100+ pounds overweight.  
So many of my clients find that cleaning up their environment makes them feel better about themselves and their health journey.  Even more exciting, it's crazy to think that once you start losing some weight, you have more energy, you care just a little bit more and you actually are motivated to clean up the clutter.  So we really are at the chicken before the egg or the egg before the chicken.   Either way, you've got some work to do either on the scale or in your home.

Today on War on Weight, I have special guest C. Lee Cawley.  C. Lee is a Certified Professional Organizer from Northern Virginia with more than 25 years experience.    I know you are going to love these eight simple steps she teaches us today and it's something you can do in an afternoon! 
As you lose weight or even gain weight, you can still look your best and feel great in your clothes everyday.   Your wardrobe should make you smile.  It should reflect who you are today and how you want to show up in the world. Not the girl of the past and definitely not the girl you strive to be.  Celebrate who you are today, you are worthy just the way you are.  Let's live in the now with a healthy mind and healthy environment! 
If you've lost weight, clear out those oversized clothes that hide your success.  You need to see it in the mirror, it will keep you focused on your goals. You don't need those clothes anymore, you're only looking to the future not your past. 
If you've gained weight, clear out the "skinny" clothes you that remind you that aren't that size anymore and trigger negative thoughts about yourself. You're not a failure because they don't fit and you don't need to beat yourself down over it every time you see it.   If they are clothes you want to keep, take them out of your everyday closet immediately.  When the time comes, you can re-evaluate if they still serve the current version of yourself.
